A Cajun Flea Market + A Lovely Award !

When I woke up this morning and it was 58 degrees in Cajun Country, I knew it was going to be a beautiful day. Gone was the humidity that we've had for the past few days and the sky was the prettiest clear blue that I've seen in ages. I thought it would be a great day to take a drive to a a small town about 15 miles north of Lafayette, Grand Coteau, La. A charming little Cajun town, just a hop, skip, and a jump away. Grand Coteau's Main St. is lined with antique stores, a flea market, and other quaint little shops and eateries. I was looking for a vintage wicker table for my patio and thought that this would be a great place to start.

I thought about Carol @ the Writer's Porch, when I saw these chickens on this chest.

This is the other shop, next to the first, both owned by a very nice couple.

A look around the front porch, and I'm liking what I see. I fell in love with a vintage tablecloth, but it was already sold.

This was the furniture barn, filled with gorgeous antiques and vintage furniture.

This collection reminded me of Laura @ White Spray Paint.

And at last, I found an antique wicker table that I liked. Liked the cowboy figurine, too.

What do you think? Do you think that I should buy the table and restore it, or should I keep looking?

A LovelyAward
Definition of "lovely": appealing to the emotions as well as the eye.
It was a total surprise last night when I got a comment from a dear reader saying that she had an award for me on her blog. Helena from Helena Halme was kind enough to pass "The Lovely Blog "award along to me, after receiving the award herself. She is originally from Finland, but now living in England and her blog is lovely indeed, and I can understand why she received this award. Please pay her a visit when you have time. Thank you so much for this honor, Helene! She said that all I had to do to accept this award was pass it on to some of my favorite blogs. That is not an easy task, since there are so many that are my favorites, and so many who already have this award. But I have to pick five, so here goes.

Cloudia @ Comfort Spiral

Congrats , you all certainly deserve this award!
Now, please pass this lovely award to five of your faves.

What a quaint little town!!! That table is wonderful and yes, it needs to be bought and redone. Can not wait to see what you do with it.

Oh how I wish you'd called me. I would have accompanied you on your treasure hunt in a heartbeat. What a gorgeous day and a fun way to spend it.

You should have seen the true antique wicker table we sold at my Aunt's estate sale in August, way up in upstate NY. You would have died. It was the coolest and we let it go for next to nothing. Such a pity. I would so have liked you to have it. But it looks as though you have found a nice one. Don't buy it yet though. Give yourself an excuse to keep looking on the next cool crisp clear autumn day.

XO

If you don't buy it, I am!! I LOVE that table and I'm putting this little place on my list for a road trip!! Thanks for telling us about it! I've been telling Hubby I want to take a trip down to Cajun Country now that it has cooled off!

White wicker is my favorite compromise I made with my wife...

Here's what happened, My wife found a batch of bedroom wicker furniture that she wanted to redo (rocking chair, headboard and two side tables)... I always wanted to paint my bedroom "New Orleans Whore House Red"...

We have a bright red bedroom, with white wicker furniture accents

I just love spending an afternoon in places like your Grand Coteau, exploring the nooks and crannies of those charming shops. Your pictures look like they could be straight out of a New England town, too ... I feel right at home. I hope you buy that wicker table, and I too can't wait to see what you do with it!

I could spend all day in places like that, and have a bunch of times. Aren't we blessed to live in this great state??!

Thanks so much for the award! I would accept and pass it on if I knew how to do that! I am a tad challenged.
Don't ya just love those sort of small towns? There are so many treasures in them.

Don't you think the little towns have some of the best anique shops?

thank you so much for the award Marguerite, you are so thoughtful! I am honored.

I don't want to be rude but my experience says that when a woman says 'should I buy that?', she's already made up her mind and she's just looking for reinforcement. Now. I could be wrong ......

Thank you so much for the award! I'm completely honored!

I love all the blue and white china you saw! My mum collects it (her kitchen is all blue & white!) and her birthday is at the end of this month,... I smell a little shopping trip in store for me

When and if I fall in love with something in such a shop, (one of a kind), I buy it. If you don't and then you don't find something else and return and it isn't there you feel like kicking yourself in the shin. I love the table. It's classic.

Gosh that looks like fun, right up my alley.

Wow, what a great way to end my day. I had such a wonderful first day off from work and now to receive this lovely award from you! Thank you! I am truly honored.

That flea market looks nice. I love shopping for unique and odd things. Today I saw all kinds of great (and very strange) art at a local museum. I'll be sharing a post about that soon.

Thanks so much for thinking of me! I love your blog as well!

Marlene- So nice to hear from you, cher! I want to go to another larger flea market, this weekend, before deciding. Thanks for your input!

Alix- I'm sure I would have loved it, since I have been collecting antique and vintage wicker for many years. That's sort of my plan, to keep looking at several different places. Thanks for stopping by!

Carol- Wait till you see the one that I'm going to, this weekend. It's huge and you'll want to put that one on your list, too! It's just a little farther up the road.

Cal. Girl- Merci, cher! I love it, too, and so does Laura @ White Spray Paint. She has a fabulous collection of the blue and white and posts about it on her blog.

Dave- Your bedroom sounds charming. I like the contrast of red and white and I'm sure it's gorgeous with the wicker. Merci for stopping by, cher!

Joanne- Thanks so much for your opinion on the table. I was thinking of painting it an expresso brown to compliment the furniture on my patio. I think I'm going to buy it!

Angie- Yes, my dear fellow Cajun, we are blessed in abundance! Merci for coming by, cher!

Kat- You are so welcome, cher! The pleasure was all mine! There are so many quaint little towns all around Lafayette and each one has it's own unique treasures and festivals.

Katherine- You're welcome, you were a cinch for this one, cher! I love the small towns for antiques, but the city for fun!! (Laf. or N.O.) :)
