A Real Cajun Breakfast + Bayou Boogie!

Every once in a while I love to go out to a big Cajun breakfast. Like every other Cajun meal, this first meal of the day is planned out to the last detail and takes several hours to prepare, when you're talking about feeding half of Lafayette for breakfast. As in, T-Coon's Restaurant, on the corner of Pinhook Road and Kaliste Saloom Road, which has become Lafayette's latest hot spot for a real authentic Cajun breakfast, the kind your Maw Maw used to make. From the beignets, buttermilk biscuits, and bread, to the smoked sausage and boudin, to the crawfish omelettes, all cest bon, cher!! And of course , everything is HOMEMADE and served with a smile, with plenty of good old Mello Joy coffee to go with it.

And T-Coon even has his own seasoning called "The Stuff" which is highly recommended! (Click here to visit the website). He calls his style of cooking, "Zydeco Cooking", but make no mistake about it, T-Coon is a Cajun and his
restaurant is fabulous! The eggs, grits, sausage, bacon , biscuits, and beignets were divine! And from the looks of the lunch buffet that they were setting up, I will go back soon, for lunch!

After ordering, my companion and I sipped a cup of Mello Joy and read, The Times, a weekly newspaper that gives details of upcoming events in Cajun Country. I saw that Joe Hall and the Canecutters are going to play this Saturday morning at the Zydeco breakfast at Cafe Des Amis, in Breaux Bridge, so that will be the next breakfast out in 2 days! See ya'll there!

Here is a little clip of some Bayou Boogie that I took of Joe Hall and his talented band, The Canecutters, at Festival Acadiens in October. Let the good times roll, cher! Enjoy!

Cloudia- So similar, yet so far away! Plenty of sugar cane, here. Merci for stopping by! Aloha, cher!

Judi- Sounds great, but you forgot the beignets? A breakfast staple, here in Cajun Country! Cheers!

Joanne- My Mom used to drink Mello Joy, when I was growing up. It was the original Cajun coffee and has such a nice flavor. Hope you're faring well in the storm!

OMGoodness, girl! another cajun break to my day! and what a wonderful breakfast!!! just recently a little hole in the wall cafe opened up in a little town down toward the beach - serving cajun food - you know, i'm there whenever i can be!!! of course, not being cajunland or even louisianaland, they are on a learning curve, but off to a good start - their shrimp po-boys are really really good! over half their business comes from me and my daughters and all the friends we've introduced to them - but there's nothing like home - and thanks again for bringing that to me, cher!!! have a beautiful friday!

Loved the Bayou Boogie - had my toes tapping well there and the breakfast sounds divine.
Sometimes I indulge in a traditional Great British Breakfast 'nosh-up' as well call it, full of calories and lovely colesterol (hmm) comprising bacon, mushrooms, fried bread (hmm), baked beans, sausages, black pudding then buttered toast and I like marmite on it because I was a marmite baby you see! LOL
I have a suggestion, cher.
Let us see you in action dancing in your little leopard skin shoes and matching handbag. You could get someone to take a video clip for a few minutes - go on, give us a treat and I can then see you say, "Hello Eddie, cher!" How's that for a suggestion? LOL

That looks like a dang good breakfast! Did you know that Lafayette, LA is number 9 on the Milken Institute's top 10 best performing cities? "The list takes into consideration job growth and quality of life as leading indicators of the city's overall performance." (Huntsville Times, which Huntsville came in #8!! So congrats to your wonderful city.

Gypsy- How cool that you have a little Cajun cafe', up there! Shrimp Poboys, yum! Thanks and you're so welcome. Hope the storm wasn't too bad, where you live. Have a great weekend, cher!

Eddie- So glad you enjoyed the music, but watch out, because toe tapping usually leads to dancing! :) Your "nosh up" sounds good, too. And I'm already IN several dancing videos on my blog, but I'll be sure and wave to you in the next one, cher! Cheers!

Kat- Geaux Lafayette! It is a wonderful city to live in! Thanks for pointing that out. (about the Milken Institute) And Congrats to Huntsville, too! Have a fun weekend!

Jo- I'll take that as a compliment, cher! Thanks for coming by and have a wonderful weekend!

Elizabeth- There's really nothing like going out to a good breakfast or brunch, especially when there is live music, too. Like the one that I'm going to, tomorrow morning!! :) Happy Weekend!

Janine- So glad that you like dancing to the Cajun/Zydeco music! It's a simple formula. Calories in- eating. Burn calories off-dancing! And so much fun, too! Merci, it's a street that I drive by, almost every day!

Beignets have got to be one of the most sublime things on the planet. When a friend of mine turned 50 last year, and I was in NOLA just before her party, she emailed me and told me to bring her some beignets. I told her I would -- except what I did was make them at her party. Oh my! What fun we all had!
