Bayou Bourbon Beans + Oil Spill Update !

With only a few days to go until the holiday weekend, I am starting to finalize my Memorial Day BBQ menu. I've asked around to see what dishes my family members would like and this recipe was unanimous. These beans are killer and can be made a day ahead, giving you a little more time for fun! Enjoy! A fabulous dish that will make your mouth water, cher!

Bayou Bourbon Beans

1 (15 oz.) can pork n' beans
2 (15 oz.) cans (ranch w/ jalapeno beans)
1/2 lb. bacon, cooked, drained and chopped
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1/2 cup spicy BBQ sauce (I used Hickory Smoke)
1 tbs. Creole or yellow mustard
1 tbs. Worcestershire
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tbs.'s minced garlic
1 shot bourbon
1 tbs. Cajun seasoning
Salt and Tabasco to taste

In large heavy Dutch oven, brown ground beef with 1 tbs. Cajun seasoning and drain excess oil.  Add onion,  bell pepper,  and garlic, and continue cooking for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Add beans, Wor. sauce, mustard, brown sugar, and BBQ sauce, and cook on medium low heat for 20 minutes. Add chopped bacon,  and bourbon and simmer for 20 more minutes, stirring occasionally. Oh cest bon, cher! Bon Appetit!

Operation Top Kill

BP has started the procedure that is shooting large quanities of mud "non toxic drilling fluids", down into the gushing well, in hopes of STOPPING the horrible leak that is spewing enormous amounts of crude into the Gulf, each day, with over 6 million gallons to date!
Here is a video about the "Top Kill" operation going on as we speak! They will know in 24 hours if it's going to work! Make it or break it time!
PLEASE PRAY THAT IT WORKS and send lots of positive thoughts to the Gulf.
Merci beaucoup, ya'll!

Lets hope this works, or at least alleviates the damage. Saw photos of how horrible the oil rush is. Terrible. I don't know how it can be cleaned up.

Deeply disturbing video information regarding the affect of all this on the environment. However there is a ray of hope regarding the capping. Shame theyu did not try to do this earlier although I can see it has enormous risks of it goes wrong. It will take an age to clear the mess even if they do stop the oiul flow. Still praying! Thanks for the bean recipe - it looks like a winner, once again! The shot of bourbon can't hurt, can it?

Please let this work. Sending our prayers and positive thoughts down your way!

Oh Marguerite, what a nightmare with that oil. I hope and pray this solution works. The images of that oil in that beautiful water are just heartbreaking.

Lot's of prayer coming down your way... this HAS to work...

The beans (as usual) look awesome and what is it about bourbon that makes bean taste so good?

I am praying to the nature Gods daily that they can fix what man has once again managed to mess up because of man's greed. Take lots of photos of your beautiful marsh land. Sorry to rant. Very disturbing to me.
Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend. I wish I was your neighbor!!!

girl, those beans do sound louisiana-delicious!!! i can just smell all your wonderful dishes simmerin' from here!!! thanks so much for sharing!

and listen, this oil disaster just leaves me speechless - well, almost - but i am really really focusing on the positive - i think every little bit helps and can and will make a difference - so - at my travel journal i even changed the header to reflect positive visual images of our waters and the planet in general, hoping even the smallest of things will add to the others to make a difference - and i am posting only beautiful pristine images of the planet there till at least this is over and all is well - so if you get a chance, check it out - in the meantime, all of you and yours and all the others there at "home" are in my thoughts!

will be thinkin' bout all that cajun food this weekend - are you making a potato salad? yummmmm....and i KNOW someone will have a lemon icebox pie!!!

praying hard. the news is so focused on the bad. hard to hear about anything positive down there.

one thing...yesterday on GMA or possibly Today, they showed Lafayette on a map and called it the "heart of Cajun country" and I immediately thought of you. xo

Midlife- It's a giant mess and it will take years to clean up, even if they do plug it up! Have a great weekend!

Dee- Thanks, cher! I'll be thinking about you at the crawfish boil and at Downtown Alive, tonight! Wish ya'll were here!

Eddie- It is an environmental disaster of epic proportions. And I agree that they should have tried this right after it happened! Merci for your prayers, mon ami! You are right, He is!

Nancy- Merci, cher! The bourbon does gives it a kick! Many thanks for your positive thoughts and prayers. Have a wonderful weekend!

John- Let's hope so, is right! If unstopped, it could take up to a year, for the hole to dry up by itself! By then, it would be across the pond! Thanks for stopping by cher!

Dave- It's all so overwhelming, with the chemicals only making it so much worse. A fun weekend coming up. Thanks, wish you were here, cher! Have fun in paradise!

The beans look great! I'm going to try them Monday. As far as the Gulf, I have zero faith in BP to fix anything. They won't make it, they will break it. Hope I'm wrong

Lea Ann- Thanks and you're welcome! They are the best and I'm so glad you want to try them! Enjoy! I've been wondering that same thing, myself!

Joanne- Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment. It is all such a nightmare and it is so heartbreaking. Especially, now that all of their efforts to stop the leak,(to date) have failed.

Good Cook- Many thanks for your prayers! We need them, now, more than ever before! Merci, the bourbon gives them a little extra kick!

Kat- It IS so disturbing to think that Marsh Island may be gone, next year, as well as all of the fish, shrimp, and oysters, along our beautiful coast. But, we know now that, that's what happens when regulations are ignored. Thanks, wish that you were my neighbor, too, cher!

GYPSY- Merci beaucoup for your lovely comment and for all of your positive thoughts and images. They mean so much to me. I have posted a potato salad recipe, just for you, on my current post! Check it out, cher, and have a happy holiday!

nanny- Looks like they are back to square one! But, we must not give up hope! Keep praying for a solution! Thanks, they are divine!

Jivago- Merci for your sweet comment, cher! I know, it's a real bummer and and it's growing bigger every day! Let's hope that the next attempt works! Glad you liked the beans, mon ami!

Cloudia- Thanks so much for your prayers. Keep em' coming cher! They mean so much! Aloha!

Cal. Girl- Many thanks for your thoughts and prayers! I'm afraid until they stop the leak, it will be more bad news. You're right about Lafayette being the heart of Cajun country. It absolutely is!

Robert- So good to see you, cher! Merci, glad you liked the bean recipe and hope that you enjoyed them! I hope you're wrong, too! Cheers!
