Cajun Fun on the Levee + A Blast from the Past !

It was one of those weeks, in Cajun Country, where the need to escape to a peaceful place in nature, became an absolute must! A friend called and invited me to spend a night at their family camp on the Atchafalaya Basin. The perfect thing to get my mind off the fact that I had to re-schedule my travel plans, due to Hurricane Bill cruising the east coast. Not exactly the perfect beach weekend, there. Hurricanes seem to be attracted to me. Katrina hit ON my birthday, that year, forcing me to cancel a New Orleans birthday bash, that I had planned. Had to make do, with no electricity, and sleeping in my bathtub, on lots of quilts and pillows. I spend most hurricanes, locked in my bathroom, since it is the only room in the house without windows. I'm not complaining, as so many others were not so fortunate with that one.

We made the short 15 minute drive to Henderson and stopped for lunch on the way in for some succulent Cajun seafood. A fried seafood platter reminded me that this was a great idea. Nothing like fresh, fried catfish, shrimp, and stuffed crabs to put a smile on anyone's face. Oh, cest bon!

We then decided to stop in at one of our favorite little places on the levee, Turtles Bar, at Basin Landing. As soon as we drove up, I saw my friend, Perry, (the guy with the cowboy hat), on the porch. He lives in the area and knows the swamp very well, and he's as canaille as they come!

Here is the entrance to this little hideaway, where the ice cold beer is flowing and the jukebox is playing whatever kind of music that the patrons want to hear. Someone wanted to hear Credence Clearwater Revival, and sunk $5. in, so it was a blast from the past, from there. Oh, the life of a Cajun is oh, so fun!! To be continued.....

One of my favorite, vintage, Swamp Rock bands! Enjoy!

Great post, love the urtles Bar shot; cold beer, shrimp, catfish, swamp land; sounds like Robicheaux country. Hope he weekend turned out as good as it started. Luckily we don't get hurricanes, we don't need to sleep in the bath.
Have a good one.

Great post and golly I could use that beer now after my 'biblical acrobatics' and some fishy food which would be very good for my brain (the phoshorus makes it work better) plus it is a powerful aphrodisiac. Plus it will oil my hip joint to enable me to run faster.
Regarding hurricanes shame I am not thee to hold your hand!
But in the Wizard of Oz there is a tornado to face together - can't wait.

I hate to be the one to break this to you, but -- believe it or not -- CCR were all from Palo Alto, CA, in the Bay Area. They win the award for the most unSan Francisco San Francisco Band Ever! In spite of that, they became the greatest swamp rock band ever. I think I'll have to do a Just A Song Entry on them.

John- Thanks! Robicheaux country is only 20 miles southeast of Lafayette, in New Iberia. I will be going there in September, and will get some pics for you.

Eddie- You are a canaille! (means rascal, in French) Don't worry, most Cajuns are, too. Your post was fab! I'm not touching that last question with a ten foot pole!

Angie, Thanks, cher! Cie la vie!
Loved your Boo-Tib today. Thanks for visiting! Have a great week!

Irish- Merci for your kind words.
Glad to cook up a little Cajun for you. You're welcome and I still am.
Thanks for stopping by. Hugs!

I like the bayou and swamp pictures on the Creedance Clearwater clip it reminds me of when my husband and I last went to Louisiana to celebrate one of our wedding anniversaries. We were in a place where the water came up to the door of the cabin and we could feed the alligators from the door. I took a lot of still pictures, I need to find them for you and tell you where we were in Louisiana – I think it was not far from Baton Rouge.

Cal. Girl- If you ever come to Cajun Country, I will take you around and show you a bon' ton', cher! Cheers!
Glad that you fared well in the storm!

K- Thanks for pointing that out, but my cousin lived in Palo Alto for 20 years and I lived out there for a while, too, in the early 70's, which is how I became a fan. I was referring to the music as being Southern, not the group. lol

A Year on the Grill- Thanks, Dude. It all seems to be working out for the best, now. And it was a fun weekend. Thanks for the link to the video. I'll check it out!

Vagabonde- Glad you liked the video, cher. I had to search for quite a while to find it! You should definitely do a post on your Louisiana trip. I would love it! Cheers! Have a great week!

Cloudia- Cest bon, indeed, cher! A turtle tatoo? An omen, I would call it. lol Gal Pal, love it! Have a blissful week in paradise.

Love it! That was my very fist album! Remember those?

Nice little bar - looks like a good time can be had in the bowels of that sweet little watering hole.

I know you had a better time on the Basin rather than some ol' East Coast beach. Beautiful photos!

Oh boy, it looks great, I've never been to your part of the world but I just know I'd love it if I ever got the chance. I love the music and the food.
I think Hurricane Bill turned out to be not quite as severe as anticipated, but it's better to be safe than sorry, I think you'll agree!

Looks like you had a good time anyway.

CCR is one of my very favorites. Always reminds me of summer.

The food sounds way too good. And not just because I started my diet today.

Nancy- I still have almost all of my old albums! But I have purchased all of my oldie faves on cd. It's a "Friends" type bar, where everyone knows everyone and loves to have fun!

Katherine- Thanks, cher! I am going to a beautiful beach, very soon. I'll tell you which one was more fun, when I get back. lol

Shammickite- Welcome to Cajun Country. We do have a lot of fun!
Yes, it is better to reschedule a trip, if it in the potential path of a Hurricane. I know this, first hand.

Elizabeth- I always have a good time! It's a big part of being a Cajun, cher!

Julie- Definitely one of my faves, too. I have so many memories of seeing them live. Those were the days!
