You all know the scenario? It's 5 o'clock and time to get off work. Happy time and time for happy hour! With over 100 places offering this tradition in Lafayette, it's sometimes hard to pick just one. But since today was an especially stressful work day and La Fonda's has such great drinks.... and you always run into old friends, there. La Fonda's it was!We headed over there for few Mexican delights. La Fonda, has been a tradition in Lafayette, since the fifties and multiple generations have enjoyed it's special flavors. My high school boyfriend and I used to eat here on Saturday nights in the 70's. What memories! Back then, it was the only good Mexican restaurant in town, but after all these years it is still so popular. One of the best parts of LaFonda is the cozy bar with caricatures of the patrons painted on the walls. And the bartenders are second to none. Their drinks and award winning Margaritas are fabulous and the drink specials are lagniappe'. The after work party continued with a round of cold Coronas and a few mixed drinks, while we went over the menu. I opted for a grilled shrimp over rice entree, served with mixed grilled veggies. It was out of this world!! Oh, the life of a Cajun is oh, so fun!! Did you have a "happy" hour today and what was yours like?*************************************************************************************

I have a favorite mexican place I eat and happened to eat there yesterday and it was good, as always. They make the best margaritas too! Your plate looks yummy. You do have a wonderful life!!
Wow, it's been a few years since i had one of those, but guess what we're having for happy hour at my house tonight!
Oh my gosh! I want to be there right this minute.
Your post reminded me that I need to get together with my tteacher friends soon!
Laura
Marguerite, the life of a Cajun sounds great! Wish I were closer to y’all. But since you had a drink, I think I’ll make one for my husband and I, one we have not had in a long time. It’s French and called “Pernod” – do you know it? I place the Pernod (also called “un pastis” in France from Pernod or other south of France brands) add a little bit of grenadine syrup in it, a couple of ice cubes and a little water. Voila, it’s called “une tomate” (a tomato). A vos souhaits, we say before we drink and clinck our glasses (to your wishes)
My husband loves jalapeno martinis. I stick with Corona, but I'm a light weight. Now you've gone and made me hungry for Mexican food. We're having chili tonight, so that's not too far off the mark.
Just popped over to see your latest culnorary masterpiece - yummy! I could get hooked on your Cajun Delights but I am afraid I have a dodgy hip these days because I injured it when using a carry chair going backwards upstairs with a heavy patient - so you would have to patient with me during our dancing and I would be hard pressed to to the limbo. My big question to you is, "You could run faster than me but would you let me catch you?" Hmm! ~ Eddie
Thanks, Kat! I love Mexican food! Glad you had a good dinner at your fave. You would love the Caj-Mex cuisine that they serve here. Have a great weekend! Cheers!
Katherine- You're braver than me. I can't drink these, but like the chocolate variety. Have a fun weekend, cher! Let the good times roll!
Laura- So good to see you, cher! Some Cajuns go to happy hour, everyday!! I wish you could be here, too. I really enjoyed your Canton posts. Have a bon temps!
VB- Are you sure we're not related? It is a fun life, but fun can be where you find it! Your Pernod sounds good. Please have one for me. A Vos Souhaits!!! Clink!
Elizabeth- They are a little strong, even for me. HOT! Chili sounds like a perfect match for a jalapeno martini. Glad you're feeling better. Have fun! Cheers!
Eddie, So sorry that you injured your hip. Hope you're on the mend, soon. If I could run faster than you, then you couldn't catch me! Hope you have a relaxing weekend with your family.
I'll stick to a good beer. 'Coonass penicillin' has now passed into our family voabulary!
Hi Marguerite
Forgive the rather forward behaviour recently which I actually enjoyed very much with one so fair as thee - hope you did too - but you know I am a real gentleman in real life as well - I hope you noticed.
Actually, I was testing the water a bit because I am working on another of my 'biggy' humorous productions and I would like you to be one of the stars in it. If you would like to flog through my Grand National Horse race you can see I embark on some romantic and flirtatious conversations with Meredith of the Things We Carried. She loved it as you can see from her comments. I want to include you in it as well since you are such a lovely lass and you are such a likeable person. It will take some time to write and I am looking for two men to take part - these must have quite powerful personalities - any suggestions? Suldog is going to be a very nasty witch so he has been cast already.
Would you mind if I included you as one of the stars? Lola, Janine, Meredith and some other great friends will be there as well.
And as for real life, well I am most disappointed that you would not let me catch you - I shall just have to get back into training, wonky hip and all, so I can ensure I CAN run faster than you and can catch you. Bye for now ~ Eddie
John- Good to hear from you! I told my Dad what you said, in this comment, and he got a big kick out of it! Hilarious! Thanks for stopping by.
Eddie- Of course, I love your jokes and know that you are a gentleman. Certainly, you may include me among the stars, along with Janine, Merideth, and Lola. Sounds like a perfect part for S.D. I suggest you consider, Irish Gumbo, for a part, as well.
Thank you, darling ~ Eddie xxx
SOOOO glad I found you. I am from Morgan City and well, I am now in NYC and miss home soooo freaking much. I am definitely a Cajun girl through and through and I am loving this recipe!
