One Foot in the Ocean and One Foot in the Bayou!

One of my dear bloggie buds, who lives on the Eastern shore of Maryland, sent me the most fabulous photos of his adventures "down the ocean", this weekend. Ocean City, Maryland is a 10 mile barrier island, on the coast of Maryland, with 30 blocks of boardwalk, a beautiful beach, and lots of fun to be had, all along this stretch of paradise. Aside from Cajun Country, it is one of my favorite places to enjoy life. I will be going there soon, and when I tell you that I am looking forward to it, then you know that I mean it! I am dreaming about eating a Chesapeake Bay crab cake, and the beach, and the boardwalk, and all the fun that I'm going to have there!

Here is a photo of the crowd at the 36th annual White Marlin Open, which was held this week, from August 3-7 in Ocean City, at Harbor Island Marina, at 13th Street and the Bay. The winner, claimed a $1,000,000. prize and with the stakes this high, there were entries from all over the Eastern seaboard.

After all this excitement, it was time to celebrate and he and his friends headed over to Reel Inn for a few Heinekens. The bartenders could hardly keep up with this partying crowd. They were feeling kind of hungry and headed over to Fish Tales for a bite to eat and maybe a little more partying.

While waiting for their dinner, he got this great shot, at Fish Tales, of a group drinking a "Surf's Up", shots of Tequila X 4! What a party town, indeed! Looks like they might even be able to keep up with the Cajuns! Let the good times, roll, cher! Do you have a favorite party spot where you live?

Oh, lawd, you're coming up to Maryland? Better batten down the hatches and lay in some beer supplies (grin) Sounds like you'll be right close to my home turf right close to Baltimore. I'll let everyone know it ain't a hurricane, it's just Marguerite! ;)

(And thank you for riding the waves with me, I appreciate that.)

Sounds like my kind of place. Actually, we lived in VA for many years and had a home on a small farming island on the Chesapeake Bay. On occasion, we would visit Chincoteague, where the wild horses are. It was beautiful and rugged. I never made it up to Ocean City. I would imagine the Delmarva Peninsula is incredibly developed now. Look forward to photos of your trip when you return. btw, I have a great crab cake recipe if you want one.

Why hello, my little pet! How is my favourite Delight of Cajun?
Maryland eh! I have some relations living there who emigrated from Liverpool about 1900 ish!
I see Irish Gumbo is here as well - I will check this lad out, but he looks quite mad! - in which case he might be perfect but I will have to get to know him first for inclusion in my play! I might just stick with the ladies - much more fun ~ Eddie

Marguerite, (responding to your comment on my figs) That sounds like a good idea. Maybe I will do that. I am not sure what all the "rules" are about selling your food. 5 gal. fermenting, probably won't get that much when all is said and done.

It looks like a good time, but Marguerite, you need to get them to come on down to Cajun country so the can learn how to really pass a good time!

Irish- And don't forget the crab cakes! You're most welcome, the pleasure was all mine.

Hi Laura and welcome. Thanks so much and I LOVE your blog, too. You are so talented and your watercolors are beautiful!

Cal. Girl- Delmarva has really grown, especially Ocean City. I love Chincoteague Island and the wild ponies, too. And I would love your crab cake recipe. You should post it!

Jo- So good to see you. Ocean City is a blast, but the one thing they don't have is live Cajun music. But they have the ocean, so guess I'll live. lol

Eddie- I must agree with you that ladies are more fun. lol Good luck with the casting and check out Owen, of Magic Lantern Show. He's on my blog list.

Nancy- So sweet of you to catch up on my posts. I appreciate all of your kind comments. Hope you had a good time on your break.

Kat- Glad you liked the idea. You could start your own business with the bounty from your property. I would certainly buy some of your jelly.

Katherine- Yeah, you're right about that, cher! We do know how to pass a good time! Have a great week!

Color me green with envy! Have a wonderful time. I've always wanted to try soft shell crabs but never have. Isn't Maryland where they're supposed to be fabulous?

oh, wow! the bayou comes to the beach! what a time you'll have! and just fyi, ocean city is just about an hour drive south of me - i usually make it as far as rehoboth and lewes beaches which are also beautiful - i'm in milford delaware, about 15 miles inland from both rehoboth and lewes - and i can't believe ya'll were talkin' figs over here! can't tell you what i would give for a couple of gallons of ripe juicy louisiana figs just off the tree!!! the one thing i preserve best is figs!!! yumyum! had even considered having some shipped to me but was afraid they would all ruin in the process - well, happy days and happy figs to all -

Elizabeth- Thanks, I'm not leaving until the 22nd. Oh, their soft shell crabs are "to die for". I'll have one in your honor. Any kind of crab is fab in Maryland!

Cloudia- Thanks for visiting and for your cheerful comment. lol

gypsy- So good to hear from you! I have a place right on the beach, so it will be fun!!! You should visit Kat's blog if you want to see some beautiful figs. I love the preserves, too.

remnd me when you come back and I will post the crab cake recipe.

meanwhile, I made your New Orleans Shrimp stew last night and it ws awesome. Haven't found Tony's Creole seasoning yet but grocer said to use Emeril's Essence as a less spicy subsitute. I threw in red pepper flakes & a bit of cayenne for spice. We loved it.
