Raining in my Heart + Oil Spill Update !

Day 46 and growing bigger everyday!!! The BP oil spill now covers over 30,000 square miles of the gulf and is growing in leaps and bounds, with up to 780,000 gallons, gushing into the gulf, EACH DAY!! The closed fishing areas along the Gulf Coast now cover 88,502 miles, covering 37 % of the gulf! There have been organized protests in New Orleans against the crimes that have been and are still being committed against our tax paying citizens! In fact, there is now a CRIMINAL investigation into exactly what happened, before and after, the Deepwater Horizon explosion. Here's what's been going on, from abc news.

Various local groups have been protesting in New Orleans. I think that this is what we all need to do! Email your Congressmen, sign the petition, volunteer to help, or if you can, participate in a protest in your area. This is a national tragedy and if you would like to learn more or to help, go here. We are the ones who have to demand the changes that need to be made!

And Louisiana is now, not the only state getting a taste of oil. The toxic sludge is now washing up on Alabama and Florida beaches. Let us pray that the Top Cap will be successful, because I don't even want to think about what will happen, if this leak is not stopped! Even if it is stopped today, the spill will no doubt, follow the loop current around Florida and travel up the east coast! We must make sure that the tighter regulations are in place, before more deep water drilling is permitted! The ones that were in place before the previous administration relaxed them. Our future is at stake and we are the ones who have to do it! !

On Day Five I left messages with elected folks in Virginia that BP was guilty of criminal negligence.

These guys need to go to jail. It frosts my socks that BP's paying $50million for tv ads and has paid dividends to investors. What's happening in the Gulf is an environomental holocust and an economic disaster that transcends generations. It was quite obvious, from the beginning, that relief wells had to be drilled since anything in the interim was a fix and not a cure. So I'm madder than hell that they didn't start on those wells then but decided to wait until August. This just doesn't pass the common sense test. oh, Oh OH!!

This is just so sickening. My heart aches so badly for my home state and all of the other Gulf states where I spent so many lovely summers.

Shame on you, BP!

Oh Marguerite, I watched all the stories on the national news tonight. This just gets sadder by the day. And then to see the poor wildlife, the beautiful pelicans just saturated with oil, my heart breaks over and over. Will the Gulf ever be restored? I think this disaster is larger than the country yet realizes.

It just breaks my heart! I can't believe that Obama is STILL trusting BP to stop this and clean this mess up!

Dearest Marguerite- this is just awful.
It is a tragedy that somebody somewhere needs to fix fast.

I have been thinking of you and your fellow, wonderful friends, family, and neighbors.

We get a lot of news on the spill over here as well, I think the oil industry have had it too soft from the Bush administration. Let's hope it gets fixed very soon.

Have you seen that ridiculous TV PR commercial BP is running now??? Who do they think will believe that nonsense.

I find the "criminal investigation" with a commission to be business as usual. What we need is public condemnation and perhaps, as Robert Reich suggests in his blog, the US to take over BP, commandeer all their tankers to siphon oil, utilize all their manpower to do clean up and go from there.

I read Reich regularly and his suggestions make more sense than most of the talking heads on tv or in the newspapers, online papers, etc. robertreich.org

You said it so well, my friend. It is very very sad, indeed.

Such a horrible, horrible situation.

I am dreadfully sorry, Marguerite. This is indeed a catastrophe and I feel ashamed to be of the same country as BP. They are obviously at fault. There should have been contingency plans in place to cater for an emergency like this. I think US could have a good case for criminal negligence. I just hope and pray they can cap the well to avoid a much bigger disaster. This could bring BP top its knees and a lot of British Pension Funds have invested heavily into that company to provide pensions.
Your President is furious with us isn't he?
All those thousands of people affected and their livelihood and the damage to the environment. Surely someone at BP should have realised that this could happen and taken steps to have a quick fix if it did.
Love Raining In My Heart. Buddy Holly was a great fav of mine as I said on Plato.
Many hugs, Marguerite - I am still praying but wish the prayer would be answered quickly ~ Eddie x

Jivago- Merci beaucoup for your sweet comment and wishes, cher! I think that all you have to type in, is a name, email, and and zip code. Thanks for offering, it is very kind of you. Have a great weekend, mon ami!

Kittie- If only every one would leave messages, then they would have to take notice! It is all so sad and I agree that they should be prosecuted, along with a few others. Thanks for coming by, cher!

Trish- Two of many adjectives that describe the whole mess! Thanks for weighing in!

Roux- My heart is so heavy, too, and it is the fact that it will keep on growing that is the hardest part to accept. It really is so mind boggling! Hugs!

Joanne- Thanks for your kind comment, cher! It all breaks my heart, too. It will take a long time for the gulf to be restored and maybe the Atlantic coast, too, by the time it's all over with. The reprucussions will be

Oh Margurite... this is so gutwrenchingly horrible. So heartbreaking. So unconscionable. The poor Gulf! Poor Louisiana. Poor Alabama. Poor us! Pensacola beaches are some of the most beautiful in all of Florida... white sugary sand beaches and beautiful blue water, all very soon to be a memory. And all the wildlife that will be lost. And income. And...well... all the devastation that we can't even calculate yet. My heart is so very very heavy. I pray every day a solution will be found that will cap the well and stop the oil. My heart is with you, my friend. Much love from the oily Sunshine State.

It's breaking my heart to watch these images.

I worry about a tropical storm or hurricane coming up the gulf -and then what? I can't think of it!

Nancy said...

Thanks for the update and especially for giving us places to become active against BP. But I just heard that Obama just okayed more oil drilling in the Gulf! Is there anyone in charge that gives a damn about the environment or the little guy?

It's about time we invented a new form of propulsion so we can leave all that black stuff in the ground! What do I mean? Time we invented? . . . we have invented!!! We have actually invented a car which runs on water! True! It's been done! Doesn't even have to be clean water either!! Electrolysis produces Hydrogen and Oxygen, as a waste product, would you believe? The hydrogen is fed straight into a conventional internal combustion engine and away the car goes with no nasty oily mess or polutant exhausts. What they get from the exhaust is good clean water which can be drunk.

Why has it not taken off on the world stage?

Answer: OIL COMPANIES! They will not permit any threat to their financial and political muscle and will do anything to stop this sort of thing! AND governments also don't want it because they would not want to lose revenue from petrol taxes. What a stupid world we live in. I'll do a post on this soon.

The inventor, Stan Myers, was murdered to try to curb his invention hitting the world car makers. But we have the technology to do it. Cars, Trucks, Airplanes . . . you name it.
Many hugs Marguerite. ~ Eddie

Dee- Oh my dear fellow Cajun, me too! It is scary to think of how unprotected we really are! It's been a real eye opener. Thanks for stopping by, cher!

Laura- It is awful, with no end in sight, but we can just hope and pray that a solution will be found, soon! Thanks for your kind thoughts, cher!

John- You are exactly right about the previous administration. Both the Wall Street fiasco and the oil spill were a result of their greed and negligence. It will take years to fix it! It's one of my favorite Buddy Holly songs.

Dave- Yes, I've seen those 50 million dollar commercials and they're ridiculous! Merci for coming by, cher!

Cal. Girl- I agree that it's all fluff, at this point, and I think that Reich is right! That is what this post is about. Please sign the petition, if you haven't already. (click on the Seize BP button in sidebar) Thanks!

Kat- Good to see you, cher! It's like watching a bad movie, every day! Merci for coming by!

Marguerite said...

Lea Ann- Yes, it is! And although they are having a small amount of success, it will be August, before they can get it under control!

Eddie- Merci, cher! The whole thing happened because of the lack of regulations by our government. If BP had been required to have the safety switch for the blowout preventer,(which would have cost them a mere $500,000), this would not have happened. Or if the safety inspections had been carried out properly, etc. and the list goes on. And of course, BP's greed!

Cloudia- Ditto, my friend! Aloha!

Alix- So good to hear from you, cher! Merci beaucoup for your kind comment. Unless they can stop it, in another month, it just might be in your neck of the woods! Thanks for stopping by! Keep praying!

Kathryn- I don't even want to think about that scenario, either. It's bad enough, as it is! But the long term effects are the scary part. It's all so mind boggling!

Nancy- You're welcome! I think that was before this happened, but the sad truth is, they obviously don't! It seems that it's all about money and to hell with everything else!

Eddie- Very interesting! I remember hearing about this a few years ago, but did not know about Stan Myers. And I agree with your answer about the oil companies, and I will look forward to your post. Merci for your comments, cher!

It's a terrible, terrible They ought to take a few BP executives and see if they stuff them down pipe to stuff the oil leak (sigh).

All of that, you guys can still have plenty of fun and food.
