A Cajun Plate Lunch + A Fais Do Do

T.G.I.F. and that means time for a great Cajun lunch. Getting off work at noon on Fridays, for most, is a Lafayette tradition. It's time to head over to your favorite Friday lunch spot and indulge in a little decadent Cajun cuisine. We decided to go to Pat's Downtown, where everything on the menu is sinfully delicious. Pat's has some of the best poboys in town, along with many other highly seasoned delicacies. For directions and to see the menu, click here.

Since we will be spending most of the weekend eating shrimp, at the Shrimp Festival, I decided to order something different, one of my faves and one of their specialties, Fried Catfish topped with Crawfish Etoufee!! Oh, when I tell ya'll that this is fabulous, then you know that I mean it! So rich and each bite just melts in your mouth. Served with potato salad, green salad, and bread pudding, it's a delightful way to start the weekend!

In case ya'll are wondering how we eat all of this rich, high calorie Cajun cuisine, without gaining a pound, here is how we do it! We dance, dance, and then dance, some more! Here is a clip of one of my favorite bands, Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, playing for a fais do do (fay-dough-dough). The first dance is a Cajun waltz and the second is a two-step. Hope that ya'll have a fun and happy weekend!! Let the good times roll, cher!

I've never been very good at the two-step. Looks like a grand time. Hope you had a good time at the festival.

Have a good weekend and dance off the shrimp.

Oh, I'm so jealous that you'll be eating shrimp all weekend long. Have some for me too please!

I wish the getting off at noon tradition on Fridays was mandated across the U.S. - what a great way to start off every weekend.

Have a wonderful time! I'll be trying your crawfish etoufee recipe soon - we have two pounds of frozen (previously boiled) in our freezer that I need to use soon. I just hate making a roux. Should I cheat and use instant roux or would that make me un-Cajun? :-)

wowee - we were just blocks apart for our friday lunches!

You know I've never been to Pats?! But I hear sooo many great things about it and it looks so yummy.

Hope you have a fabulous time at the festival - what am I saying? I *know* you will.

Julie- Thanks, and it all depends on having a good dance partner for a two- step.

John- Merci, and you can bet I'll be dancing and sweating it off.

Mandy- I think that I'll be eating enough shrimp for the whole blogosphere! lol Using an instant roux is not un-Cajun at all. The best is the Louisiana brand Etoufee Mix. There is a link at the bottom of the recipe, where you can order it. You cannot tell the difference with this mix!

Kora- Wow, we really should get together for lunch sometime! I'm getting ready to head over there, now!

Cloudia- Merci for the sweet compliments and for visiting! Your Aloha Friday sounds great! Do you have a post about it?

Laura- I now pronounce you an honorary Cajun! You love the Cajun food, music, and dancing, so this qualifies you! Cheers!
