Time for Cajun Music Awards & Festival !

Time to put on your dancing shoes for the 21st annual Le Cajun Music Awards and Festival, to be held on Friday, August 21st-22nd, at Blackham Coliseum, in Lafayette. The awards ceremony will be held on Friday evening and is sponsored by the Cajun French Music Association, (CFMA), followed by 12 hours of non- stop Cajun music, on Saturday, beginning at 9 am!

Two days of great Cajun fun, food, and music, and get this, all in an air conditioned environment, with a huge wooden dance floor, (woo- hoo) ! This event is an absolute blast, with Cajun Country's finest bands and musicians being honored, as well as playing at the festival. The CFMA was founded in 1984, with a goal of preserving and promoting traditional Cajun music, with the artists spanning several generations. Come on out and celebrate our heritage and immerse yourself in what promises to be a weekend of fantastic music that you will long remember.

And one of my favorite bands to dance to, Kevin Naquin and the Ossun Playboys, (my pick) will play from 12:45-2:45 pm. and have been nominated this year for the "People's Choice Award". This band is hotter than hot and injects traditional Cajun with a little Swamp Pop and Zydeco.

One of this year's nominees for "Band of the Year", is Feufollet, (my pick) who with their youthful experimentation have managed to bring the traditional sounds of Cajun music to a new level, ushering in a whole new generation of fans. They started playing together, locally, in their teen years, and now as twenty-somethings, are touring the country and the world .

And sometimes experience is the best teacher and one of Acadiana's legendary, traditional Cajun bands, Paul Daigle and Cajun Gold, will take the stage at 5:15 pm on Saturday. (my pick) Paul Daigle is nominated this year for "Accordionist of the Year". For more info., call (337-344-2494)

You can see what I mean by HOT, here, with Kevin Naquin and the Ossun Playboys!
Mixing it up for a crowd in
Saulieu. Let the Good times roll, cher!

And here is a little sample of le musique de Feufollet, (playing at the 2009' Albequrque Folk Festival). Their incredible, captivating tunes are loved by all who know them and help to keep the Cajun music culture going! Lassiez les temps bon rouler, cher!

Which one is your favorite?

That Feufollet sounds real good – I wish I could go to your festival. The problem is I love to dance and my husband does not. It looks like you dance in couple so it would be hard to dance alone. When I went to Dakar, Sénégal and places where they dance, you could dance alone, so that made it easy! Marguerite you did not say what Feu Follet means – in France anyway a “feu follet” was a small dancing short flame seen in the cemeteries. Formerly in cemetery, usually in marshes, when animal matters broke up some phosphorus was released and this was flammable. It was like a will-o-the-wisps and some people thought these little flames, called feu follet, came from supernatural forces.

I must have been drooling so much over the last string of posts you put up that you were afraid it was going to reach clear down in the bayou and flood everyone there out -no food pictures this time, huh? That's okay for now as my salivary glands did need a bit of a rest.

I like them all-
However, there's something about those young people mixing it up with the old and the new that is hard to resist.

Enjoyed visiting as usual-

What a great post! I wish that I could be there. The first video was wonderful. I'll listen to the second one later today.

Thank you for sharing such kindness with me. Eight years seems like such a long time. I can only imagine...

Hello ma cher Marguerite with the lovely green eyes - I have my dancing shoes all ready, I am in training, my hip is much better and I'm raring to go on a evening of Cajun Delightfulness. Look out for a Brit in an Ambulance uniform (the ladies like me in a uniform, you know) and we shall twist the light fantastic. I will be really stuck as to which green eye is the most beautiful, the left or the right - I shall gaze into each one alternatively with a sigh whilst we eat shrimps by candlelight between dances ~ Eddie

Vagabonde- In Cajun Country,
feu follet means "the heat within". Also, here, it doesn't matter if you're married or not, everyone dances with everyone. Hope your hubby is not the jealous type! lol

Jeni- Sorry, but the Cajun music is just as important as the food. Check out my archives for more food pics to drool over.

Cloudia- You're welcome, cher! Glad you enjoyed them. Happy weekend!

What a great blog! My wife will drool over the recipes (not that I'm bone dry) and I'm loving the music. And thanks for your comments on Just A Song.

Word Verification: rappe (A Cajun form of rap music?)

I am so glad that you left a comment on my blog, thank you! My BFF of 32 years is Creole and she's taken me around New Orleans and beyond (before Katrina). I LOVE Cajun music and bought CD's while I was there. I love the food, too. I'll be browsing through your recipes to see if I can mimic some of your local flavor, which I think is fantastic!
