Bayou Blues Jam at Artmosphere

We had an absolute blast at
Artmosphere Bistro last night, where they have a Jazz/Blues Jam every Thursday night. The place is well known for it's nightly music, great food, awesome art and chocolate martinis. Artmosphere is a combination art gallery, restaurant, and live music venue, as well as a great spot to catch beads during Mardi Gras season. I have company from Maryland, this week, and wanted to give them a taste of our talented blues musicians.

My son and daughter met us there and it was starting to become quite a party. After adjusting to the darkness, I looked around the cozy bar area and saw several people waving at me. Oh my gosh, it was a group of friends from good old Abbeville who I had gone to high school with, that I hadn't seen in ages. Well, the party began turning into an Abbeville reunion, as one friend pointed out that most of the band members were also friends from Abbeville.

An old family friend told me that his son was up next to play in the jam. Then my son told me that one of his friends was about to play, as well. It turned out that our sons were friends and neither realized that their parents were old friends. Talk about synchronicity! The music was hot, as always, in Cajun Country and seeing my old buds was icing on the cake. Lassier les bon ton rouler, cher!

Have a fabulous fun weekend!! Do you have a place like this in your town?

Marguerite! This is my first little comment to you, but I've been reading you blog for about a week now. I started a similar blog a few weeks back to detail my re-awakend love afair with my home state and I came across your blog when I was looking for something on Whiskey River. I just wanted to say that I absolutely adore reading your takes on all the things I adore about home. Your writing style is fabulous. I just had to comment on your post about Artmosphere since it's one of my usual spots. Can't wait to read more of your stuff!

Welcome Kora!! Thank you so very much for your sweet compliments, cher! It is so much fun to live in Acadiana, and I couldn't imagine leaving the area, again, either. Will be going to Whiskey River on Sunday. Hope to see you there!

Hah! We'll see about making it to Whiskey River one Sunday soon. My "Gentleman Caller" just bought quite the acreage out near Lake Martin and is planning on working on it all weekend. I'm already trying to get him out to Blue Moon tonight. But speaking of all these uber dance spots, maybe you could recommend a place/instructor that gives Cajun Dance lessons? While I'm content to just fly by the seat of my pants and do whatever comes to me, Gentleman Caller is a bit shy and wants to be formally taught. xo - KB

Kora- About the best place to take Cajun dance lessons is at U.L.'s Potpourri summer classes. You can check it out at www.ce.louisiana.edu
The next one starts on July 12th.

Lake Martin is so beautiful. Have a fun weekend!

Does it even get any better than that!!??

Sometimes it does, Jo!! Especially during festivals when they have dozens of great bands and fabulous food booths, all in one location. And the art is everywhere, here. You wouldn't have any trouble selling your art in one of our many galleries. Cheers!
